SPF constable shoots himself in Visakhapatnam

On March 25, 2023, a Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Special Protection Force (SPF) named Praveen Kumar, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at his residence located in the Maddilapalem area of Visakhapatnam city, Andhra Pradesh, India. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. local time.

Praveen Kumar, who was in his late 30s and had served in the SPF for over a decade, was reportedly going through personal and financial issues that may have led to his drastic action. According to preliminary investigations, there were no signs of foul play or struggle at the scene of the incident.

The SPF is a specialized wing of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) responsible for providing security to VIPs and other important installations. Praveen Kumar was posted at a VIP security duty but had been on leave for a few days prior to the incident.

Upon hearing the gunshot, neighbors rushed to Praveen's house and found him lying in a pool of blood with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest. They immediately alerted the local police and an ambulance was called to the scene. Praveen was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The local police have registered a case of suicide and have begun investigations into the matter. The gun used in the incident has been seized for further examination. Praveen's family members have been informed about the incident and are currently in shock and mourning their loss.

The SPF and CRPF have expressed their condolences to Praveen's family and have assured them of all possible assistance during this difficult time. The incident has raised concerns about the mental health and well-being of security personnel and the need for adequate support systems to address their issues.

The exact cause of Praveen Kumar's suicide is yet to be determined and further investigations are ongoing. However, it is a tragic reminder of the human cost of serving in the security forces and the importance of addressing the mental health and well-being of our brave personnel.
