MDSU-1 is a Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit that operates under the command of the U.S. Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Group. The unit is responsible for conducting underwater salvage operations, disarming explosives, and performing other related tasks.

During a site visit on February 14, 2024, Capt. Ted Carlson, the Navy Region Hawaii chief of staff, spoke with Sailors assigned to MDSU-1 Detachment EOD. The purpose of the visit was to assess the unit's operations and provide guidance and support as needed.

Navy Region Hawaii is responsible for coordinating all shore-based naval personnel and activities in Hawaii. In addition, it serves as the Navy's representative to the Hawaii community, working closely with local leaders and organizations to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the military and civilian populations.

The MDSU-1 Detachment EOD site visit was an opportunity for Capt. Carlson to meet with the unit's personnel and gain a better understanding of their operations and challenges. By providing guidance and support, Navy Region Hawaii can help ensure that the unit is able to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently.
