Bullrich tells Bukele she wants to replicate his security plan in Argentina

Patricia Bullrich, Argentina's Security Minister, has expressed interest in replicating El Salvador's security plan to tackle crime in her country. During a meeting with Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) summit in Washington DC on Friday, Bullrich stated that she wants to follow the model being implemented by El Salvador.

Bullrich's statement comes as Argentina has been grappling with rising crime rates in recent years. According to data from the National Police, violent crime increased by 16% in 2020 compared to the previous year. The country also experienced a surge in homicides, with over 35,000 deaths recorded in 2020, an increase of 14% from the previous year.

El Salvador's security plan, which has been implemented by President Bukele since he took office in 2019, has been credited with reducing crime rates in the country. The plan includes a combination of military and police operations, as well as social programs aimed at addressing the root causes of crime.

Bullrich's interest in replicating El Salvador's security plan is not surprising, given the success of the plan in reducing crime rates in that country. However, it is important to note that each country has its unique challenges and context, and what works in one may not necessarily work in another. Additionally, any attempt to replicate a successful model must be carefully planned and executed to ensure its effectiveness in the new context.
