Southern California city council gives key approval for Disneyland expansion plan

The City Council of Anaheim, California, located in Orange County and home to the world-famous Disneyland Resort, approved a significant expansion plan for Disneyland during their meeting on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. This key approval marks a significant step forward in bringing new attractions and developments to the theme park.

The expansion project, known as the "Avengers Campus," is part of Disney's larger strategy to modernize and expand its theme parks in response to growing competition from other entertainment destinations. This new area within Disney California Adventure Park will be dedicated to Marvel Comics and will feature a variety of attractions, dining experiences, and encounters with beloved Marvel superheroes.

Some of the confirmed attractions for Avengers Campus include "Spider-Man," "Doctor Strange," and "Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!" which was previously an existing attraction that underwent a transformation as part of this expansion. Additionally, there will be a new dining location called "Pym Test Kitchen," where guests can enjoy innovative food and beverage offerings based on the Ant-Man and Wasp characters.

The city council's approval includes a 14-acre expansion and a $1 billion investment from Disney. This expansion is expected to create thousands of jobs and generate substantial revenue for the city. The project is set to open in phases, with the first phase anticipated to debut in 2022.

This expansion is not only a win for Disney and its fans but also for the city of Anaheim as it continues to attract tourists from around the world and boost the local economy. With this key approval, the excitement builds as fans eagerly await the opening of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park.
