Man crashed into McDonald’s, chased terrified woman with knife

The suspect in this case was identified as Abbas Hayder Al-Khafaji, a 29-year-old man from Lakemba.

He approached the counter where a 21-year-old woman was working, brandishing a large kitchen knife. The woman, understandably frightened, tried to flee from the scene but was pursued by Al-Khafaji.

The man reportedly threatened to kill her and chased her around the restaurant, forcing her to barricade herself in a corner. In an attempt to protect herself, the woman grabbed a broom from nearby and used it as a makeshift weapon.

The incident caused panic among other patrons and staff present in the restaurant at the time. Some customers managed to escape through the back door while others hid in fear. The police were alerted to the situation and arrived at the scene within minutes.

Upon arrival, officers found Al-Khafaji still inside the restaurant. He was apprehended without further incident and the woman was safely rescued. The suspect was taken into custody and later charged with attempted aggravated robbery and assault with intent to rob.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of shock and minor injuries sustained during the altercation. The police commended her bravery for her quick thinking and actions in defending herself against the attacker.
