Stay off the course: More barricades added to Boston Marathon route

The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has announced that there will be more barricades added to the Boston Marathon route for the 125th running of the race on Monday, April 18, 2022. The additional barricades are being put in place to enhance spectator safety and security measures.

The extra barricades will be installed in several towns along the marathon course, including Ashland, Natick, Newton, Wellesley, and Boston. Specifically, there will be an additional four miles of barricades in these towns.

In Ashland, which is the starting town for the marathon, an extra mile of barricades will be set up. In Natick, which is the first major town on the course, an additional mile and a half of barricades will be installed. In Newton, which is known for its famous Heartbreak Hill, an extra mile of barricades will be put up. In Wellesley, where runners pass through the iconic Scream Tunnel, an additional mile of barricades will be set up. In Boston, where the finish line is located, an extra half mile of barricades will be installed.

These additional barricades are part of the BAA's ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and secure race for all participants and spectators. The Boston Marathon is one of the world's most prestigious road races, and attracts runners from all over the world. With the ongoing global health situation, the BAA is taking extra precautions to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved in the event.

It is important to note that spectators are asked to stay off the course during the race to allow runners to move safely and efficiently through the towns along the marathon route. The BAA encourages spectators to find alternative viewing locations away from the course to enjoy the race and support the runners.
