Pattaya closes five Sukhumvit Road U-turns for Songkran safety

In preparation for the Thai New Year celebrations, also known as Songkran, which is scheduled to take place from April 11 to 19, 2023, Pattaya City in Thailand has announced several safety measures to ensure the well-being of road users during this festive period. One of these measures includes the temporary closure of five U-turn points across the city.

The U-turn points that will be closed are located at the following intersections:

1. North Pattaya Road and Sukhumvit Road

2. South Pattaya Road and Sukhumvit Road

3. Second Road and Sukhumvit Road

4. Pratamnak Soi 5 and Sukhumvit Road

5. Soi Chaiyapruk 3 and Sukhumvit Road

The decision to close these U-turn points was made in response to the high volume of traffic and the potential risks associated with the traditional water fights that are a significant part of Songkran celebrations. The closure is expected to help reduce congestion and prevent accidents caused by vehicles making U-turns in heavy traffic or in the midst of water fights.

Additionally, other safety measures being implemented during Songkran in Pattaya include increased police presence on the roads to enforce traffic laws and ensure orderly celebrations. The city is also encouraging the use of public transportation and organizing shuttle bus services to encourage people to leave their personal vehicles at home and reduce traffic congestion.

It is important to note that these temporary road closures and other safety measures are intended to ensure the safety and well-being of all road users during the Songkran celebrations in Pattaya. Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly and follow all traffic regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive period.
