Women’s Golf: Northwestern closes out regular season with second consecutive victory

In the world of women's college golf, the Northwestern Wildcats have been making waves once again this season. Following a successful 2021 campaign that saw them win back-to-back tournaments towards the end of the regular season, Northwestern has repeated that feat in 2022.

Last year, under the guidance of Head Coach Emily Fletcher, the Wildcats claimed victories at the PINGASU Invitational and the Silverado Showdown. These triumphs came in quick succession, with Northwestern securing a hard-fought win at the PINGASU Invitational before heading to California for the Silverado Showdown, where they dominated the competition once more.

Fast forward to this year, and history has repeated itself for the Wildcats. After a solid performance throughout the 2022 regular season, Northwestern found themselves in a tight race at the PINGASU Invitational held from April 4 to 6, 2022, at the par-72, 6,300-yard Ravenwood Golf Club in Eureka, Missouri. The team managed to secure a narrow victory, edging out the University of Missouri by just one stroke with a team score of 865 (-3) to Missouri's 866 (+1).

Following their close win at the PINGASU Invitational, the Wildcats traveled to California for the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic held from April 10 to 12, 2022, at the par-72, 6,300-yard Pronghorn Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico. Despite facing strong competition from teams such as UCLA, USC, and Arizona State, Northwestern once again rose to the occasion and clinched their second consecutive tournament win of the season. The Wildcats finished with a team score of 865 (-3), three strokes ahead of second-place finisher UCLA.

With these victories under their belts, the Northwestern Wildcats have solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in women's college golf. As they prepare for postseason play, they will carry the momentum from their successful regular season and aim to continue their winning streak in the Big Ten Conference Championship and beyond.

The team's impressive performances this year have been fueled by consistent play from key contributors such as sophomore Hannah Kim, who finished as the individual runner-up at both the PINGASU Invitational and the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. Kim's strong play has been complemented by solid performances from seniors Hannah Foreman and Stephanie Wong, as well as freshman Mia Ayer and sophomore Katie Dunne.

As the Wildcats look towards the postseason, they will be eager to continue their winning ways and make a strong showing in the upcoming Big Ten Championship and NCAA Regionals. With their recent form and the determination of their players, there is no doubt that Northwestern will be a team to watch in the coming weeks.
