Wyndham Clark takes veiled shot at LIV Golf after “hard day” at The Masters

Wyndham Clark, an American professional golfer currently playing on the PGA Tour, had a promising start at the 2023 Masters Tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. On April 6, 2023, during the first round of this prestigious major championship, Clark found himself in a strong position with a score of 3-under par, placing him just a few shots behind the leader, Bryson DeChambeau, who was at 6-under par.

However, things took a turn for the worse for Clark on the back nine. Starting from the 11th hole, also known as the "High Handicap Hole" due to its challenging nature, Clark experienced a series of unfortunate shots that significantly impacted his score. He ended up carding a disappointing 76 on the first day, leaving him eight shots behind the leader and in a less favorable position than he had been earlier in the round.

Following his disappointing performance on Thursday, Clark demonstrated his characteristic confidence and resilience during a post-round interview with the media. He jokingly referenced the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series, which features 54-hole tournaments instead of the standard 72 holes in PGA Tour events, stating, "Yeah, we’ve got 54 holes. In LIV Golf they only play 54, so I like my chances." This comment was seen by some as a veiled criticism of the LIV Golf league and its shorter tournament format.

It is important to note that Wyndham Clark's comment was made in a lighthearted manner and should not be taken as a direct criticism of LIV Golf or its players. Instead, it can be seen as a reflection of Clark's determination to bounce back from a difficult first round and focus on the remaining 36 holes of the tournament.

The 2023 Masters Tournament is scheduled to continue through Sunday, April 9, with Clark aiming to improve upon his opening round and potentially contend for the coveted green jacket. With 54 holes remaining, he will look to put his past struggles behind him and focus on the opportunities ahead.
