Mr. Jose Sanchez, the Regional Business Director of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Pacific Ocean Division, recently conducted a tour of three out of the seven barracks currently under construction at United States Army Garrison (USAG) Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. These new facilities are being built by USACE Far East District to accommodate a total of 906 personnel in suite-style accommodations.

USAG Humphreys is a major military installation located in the city of Pyeongtaek, approximately 70 kilometers south of Seoul. The installation is home to various units from the United States Army and other branches of the military, as well as their families and civilian personnel.

The three barracks that Mr. Sanchez inspected during his tour are part of a larger modernization project aimed at improving the living conditions for military personnel and their families stationed at USAG Humphreys. Each of the new barracks is designed to house 302 personnel in suite-style accommodations. Suite-style accommodations refer to individual living spaces that include a private bedroom, bathroom, and a shared living and kitchen area.

The suite-style design is intended to provide soldiers with more privacy and comfort, which can help to improve morale and productivity. The new barracks are also being constructed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind, featuring modern heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as solar panels and other renewable energy sources.

The USACE Far East District is responsible for managing and executing engineering and construction projects in the Asia-Pacific region, including at USAG Humphreys in South Korea. The district's work includes designing and building military facilities, maintaining and repairing existing infrastructure, and providing engineering and technical expertise to support military operations.

The construction of the new barracks is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, with the remaining four barracks scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024. Once completed, these new facilities will provide much-needed housing for military personnel and their families, helping to ensure that they have the resources and support they need to effectively carry out their missions in South Korea and beyond.
