The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Pacific Ocean Division is currently constructing seven new unaccompanied personnel housing facilities at United States Army Garrison (USAG) Humphreys in South Korea. Mr. Jose Sanchez, the Regional Business Director for USACE Pacific Ocean Division, recently visited three of these barracks under construction as part of an inspection tour.

USAG Humphreys is a major military installation located in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, which serves as the logistical hub for the U.S. military in the region. The new housing facilities are being built to accommodate unaccompanied personnel, meaning soldiers who do not have family members living with them.

Each of the seven new barracks will be eight stories tall and will provide suite-style living units for a total of approximately 3,000 service members. The suite-style design means that each unit will include individual bedrooms for two service members, as well as shared kitchens and bathrooms. This configuration is intended to promote a more communal living environment and foster a sense of camaraderie among the soldiers.

The USACE Far East District is overseeing the construction project, which is being carried out in accordance with the latest military specifications and building codes to ensure the safety and comfort of the future residents. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, and the new barracks will provide much-needed housing for soldiers currently living in outdated and cramped quarters.

The construction of these new barracks is part of a larger effort by the U.S. military to improve living conditions for its personnel in South Korea. The new facilities will not only provide modern and comfortable housing but will also help to reduce overcrowding and promote a better quality of life for the soldiers serving at USAG Humphreys.
