Woman and 2 children killed in head-on crash on 15 Freeway in rainy San Bernardino County desert

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a tragic head-on collision occurred on the 15 Freeway in the rainy San Bernardino County desert, resulting in the deaths of a woman and two children. The incident took place on a section of the freeway where heavy rainfall had made driving conditions particularly hazardous.

The unfortunate incident transpired when the driver of a Kia sedan, identified as a 33-year-old woman from Hesperia, California, was traveling southbound on the 15 Freeway near the Mojave River Bridge area. As she navigated through the heavy rainfall, her vehicle began to hydroplane, causing it to lose control. The Kia veered out of its lane and entered the northbound lanes, directly colliding with an oncoming SUV.

Sadly, the woman and two young children, aged six and eight, who were passengers in the Kia, did not survive the impact. The children were from Los Angeles and were traveling with their mother at the time of the accident. The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old man from Apple Valley, sustained minor injuries but was able to escape unscathed.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly and initiated lifesaving measures for those involved in the collision. However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to save the woman and the two young children. The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the accident, with a focus on the road conditions and the possibility of the Kia's tires losing traction due to the heavy rain.

This unfortunate incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by adverse weather conditions while driving. The CHP advises motorists to exercise caution during rainy conditions by reducing their speed, increasing following distance, and avoiding sudden lane changes or hard braking. Additionally, ensuring that tires are properly maintained and have adequate tread depth can help prevent hydroplaning incidents.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident. The CHP continues to investigate the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
