Gov. Hochul to deploy National Guard, state police in plan to combat NYC’s rising subway crime

The recent stabbing incident at a Bronx subway station is just one of several high-profile crimes that have occurred in the New York City (NYC) subway system in recent months. In response to this growing concern, Governor Kathy Hochul has announced her plan to deploy both the National Guard and state police to combat subway crime in NYC.

According to a report by the New York Post, the governor's plan includes increasing the number of police officers on trains and platforms, as well as implementing new technology such as surveillance cameras and metal detectors. Additionally, the National Guard will be deployed to assist with crowd control and provide additional security during peak hours.

The rise in subway crime in NYC has been a growing concern for both residents and visitors to the city. In 2021 alone, there were over 300,000 reported crimes on the subway system, including theft, assault, and robbery. This represents an increase of over 40% compared to the previous year.

The governor's plan is aimed at addressing this issue by increasing the number of police officers on trains and platforms, as well as implementing new technology to improve safety and security for passengers. The deployment of the National Guard is also expected to provide additional support during peak hours and help to deter potential criminals.

It is important to note that while the governor's plan may help to reduce subway crime in NYC, it is not a cure-all solution. It will require ongoing efforts from both law enforcement and the public to address this complex issue.
