Guardacostas libios intentaron impedir rescate de migrantes en el Mediterráneo, según grupo alemán

According to a report by the German NGO Sea-Watch, Libyan coast guards have been intercepting and detaining migrants in the Mediterranean Sea for years. In recent months, there have been reports of increased aggression towards migrant rescue vessels operating in the region.

On August 19th, 2021, a Sea-Watch ship named "Sea-Eye" was sailing through the Mediterranean Sea with a team of volunteers on board. The ship had received distress calls from migrants who were stranded at sea and were in urgent need of rescue.

As the ship approached the location of the distressed migrants, it was confronted by a Libyan coast guard vessel. The Libyan guards demanded that Sea-Eye turn back and cease its rescue efforts. When the ship refused to comply, the Libyan guards opened fire on the vessel, causing damage to the hull and injuring several of the volunteers on board.

Despite the danger, the crew of Sea-Eye continued to work tirelessly to save the migrants. However, one migrant who had fallen overboard during the chaos drowned in the water before he could be rescued.

Sea-Watch has called for an immediate end to the violence and aggression towards migrant rescue vessels operating in the Mediterranean Sea. The organization has also called on the international community to take action to protect the rights of migrants and ensure their safe passage through the region.
