Lokoja: Residents stage protest over poor power supply

On Monday, August 23rd, 2021, residents of Lokoja Local Government Area in Kogi State staged a peaceful protest against the poor electricity supply in their area. The protest was organized by the Lokoja Electricity Distribution Company (LEDCO) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).

According to reports, the residents have been experiencing frequent power outages and poor electricity supply for several months. This has led to frustration and economic losses for many businesses and households in the area. The protestors demanded that the government take immediate action to address the issue and improve the electricity supply in Lokoja.

During the protest, the residents carried placards with various slogans such as "No more darkness in Lokoja," "Electricity is a basic human right," and "We demand better electricity supply." The protestors also sang songs and chanted slogans to express their frustration and anger.

The LEDCO officials and NUEE members addressed the protestors and promised to work towards improving the electricity supply in Lokoja. They also urged the residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with the authorities while they work towards finding a solution to the problem.

It is worth noting that Kogi State has been experiencing power outages for several years due to various factors such as vandalism, theft, and poor maintenance of the electricity infrastructure. The state government has taken several measures to address the issue, including the establishment of LEDCO and the implementation of various policies and programs to improve the electricity supply in the state. However, it seems that more needs to be done to address the problem effectively.
